The Central Government has approved Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Co-Scheme, a Central Sector Sub Scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada. Under this scheme, the aim is to improve the quality of fish and fishery products in the domestic market by investing more than Rs 6000 crore in micro and small enterprises in the fisheries sector. This investment will be made in all states/UTs over the next 4 years. This scheme will promote aquatic farming insurance and through PM Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah Yojana, cheap loan facility will be provided to farmers doing aquatic farming and people associated with fish farming.

The main objective of the Central Government to launch PM Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah Yojana is as follows:

- To facilitate access to institutional financing to micro and small enterprises associated with fisheries.
- To provide one-time incentive to beneficiaries to purchase insurance.
- To encourage small and micro units through performance grants to improve value chain efficiency of fisheries sector including creation and maintenance of jobs.
- Encouraging micro and small enterprises through demonstration grants for their expansion as well as adoption of fish and fishery product safety and quality systems including creation and maintenance of jobs.
